Snowfall warning for
Halifax County - east of Porters Lake continued

15 to 20 centimetres of snow expected tonight and Wednesday morning.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system developing south of Long Island will push slowly northeastward and is expected to move into the Gulf of Maine tonight then track over Nova Scotia on Wednesday. Snow ahead of the system will begin over Southwestern Nova Scotia late this afternoon and spread eastward this evening and overnight with total amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres expected over most of Central and Western Nova Scotia.

At this point it seems that the system will draw in some milder air from the Atlantic which will likely override the colder air currently entrenched over the region and will likely result in the snow changing to or becoming mixed with ice pellets mainly over southwestern regions. There is also a risk of freezing rain this evening and overnight in the southwest.

This changeover will depend on the track and intensity of the low, as even a slight shift could greatly affect the amount and type of precipitation received at any location in the province.

Strong southeasterly winds will develop ahead of this system. Les Suetes winds gusting to 110 km/h will develop from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence late in the morning and will diminish late in the afternoon.
