==discussion==

A low pressure system south of Newfoundland this afternoon will track
northeastward to lie southeast of the Avalon Peninsula later tonight.
The low will then stall over the Grand Banks on Saturday before
moving off to the east Saturday night into Sunday. Some bands of
heavier rain ahead of this system are starting to show up on radar
south of the Avalon Peninsula. They will move onshore early this
evening over southeastern portions of the Avalon Peninsula then
spread northward. Current indications suggest that between 30 and 60
millimetres of rain can be expected over the Avalon Peninsula by
Sunday morning with the highest amounts expected over northern and
eastern sections including St. John's and vicinity. As the
precipitation is moving in from offshore there is always some
uncertainty with respect to amounts. Environment Canada will closely
monitor the situation through the night and issue any warnings if
necessary.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as warnings may be
required.
