Historic Long Duration Eastern Maritimes Snowstorm Update Two

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Locations: eastern Nova Scotia.

Additional Snowfall: near 20 cm.

Maximum wind gusts: up to 80 km/h.

Time span: continuing tonight.

Remarks:  A low pressure system has stalled south of the Maritimes resulting in periods of heavy snow, blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Conditions will gradually improve Monday during the day.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Poor visibility locally near zero in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring.

Maximum wind gusts: 70 to 80 km/h.

Locations: central and parts of western Nova Scotia.

Time span: continuing until Monday morning.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility.

If travelling, be prepared for areas of near-zero visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.
