Rainfall warning in effect for:
  • Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

A low pressure system over the eastern United States will track north of New Brunswick tonight. A warm front extending from the low will move through Nova Scotia today. Snow ahead of the warm front will change to a few showers as temperatures begin to increase this morning. A band of heavy rain ahead of an approaching cold front will sweep across the province overnight into Wednesday. 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is expected over most of the province with localized areas seeing up to 50 millimeters. The heavy rain combined with the warm temperatures and significant snow melt could produce localized flooding.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
