Autobody shops in St. Stephen may be busy today after the Charlotte County area was pounded by a hail storm on Thursday night.

Hail the size of quarters damaged vehicles and forced people inside their homes.
Jonathan McCaffrey from Old Ridge made his way to the Mayfield Greenhouse store to warn his family about the hail when the storm was at its worst.

β€œIt started to hit my vehicle and I was able to pull my vehicle inside an area in the greenhouse. So I was able to get out of it,” McCaffrey said.

β€œA lot of people weren't and I wouldn't want to be in a vehicle at the worst of it. Lots of people were throwing blankets on their cars, for myself, that was the worst I've ever seen it.”
He said the hail storm was very unusual for the area.

"No one wanted to be outside of a vehicle for sure in that mess," McCaffrey said.

"It's typical for us to have a thunderstorm here and there, small hail, but nothing with hail like that I've never seen. I've heard of it on a few occassions, you've heard of damaging hail, but I, myself, have never seen it like that."
