...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM

EST TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow

  accumulations between 2 and 4 inches, sleet accumulations around 1

  inch and ice accumulations between one tenth and four tenths of an

  inch. The greatest ice accumulations across Washington and Hancock

  counties. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of Coastal DownEast, Far Eastern, Interior

  DownEast, and Penobscot Valley Maine

* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to 5 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.

  Travel will be extremely hazardous. The hazardous conditions will

  impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could

  cause tree damage.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and

ice will make travel extremely dangerous.

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations

  between 2 and 4 inches, sleet accumulations of up to one half of

  an inch and ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch.

* WHERE...Central Piscataquis, Northwest Aroostook, Northern

  Piscataquis, and Northern Somerset Counties.

* WHEN...From 11 PM this evening to 5 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous

  conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or

freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads

and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Mount Carleton - Renous Highway

Impactful ice pellets with freezing rain possible on Monday and Tuesday.

Locations: northern New Brunswick.

Time span: Monday, persisting into Tuesday morning.

Remarks: A new moisture-rich low will track towards Nova Scotia tonight and should reach Anticosti Island by Tuesday afternoon. Precipitation is expected to fall as ice pellets and freezing rain. A changeover to rain is expected late in the day Monday across northeastern parts of New Brunswick. Uncertainty remains in how far north the warm air will push. A period of heavy snow is also possible Monday night over northwestern sections.

Roads could become icy and slippery. Meteorologists will continue to monitor the unfolding weather situation and warnings may be required this afternoon.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County

Significant ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Locations: southern and central New Brunswick.

Time span: this afternoon through Monday morning.

Remarks: A persistent weather system stalled south of the Maritimes will push another round of freezing precipitation into New Brunswick later today and into Monday. Precipitation will start as ice pellets in the afternoon and gradually transition to freezing rain Sunday evening. Freezing rain and ice pellets will continue into Monday morning before warmer air finally changes the precipitation to showers.

There is a risk of significant ice accretion in some areas before this changeover.

This warning will likely be expanded further north.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Locations: all counties along the Atlantic coast from Digby to northern Cape Breton Island.

Time span: this afternoon until Monday evening.

Remarks: Freezing rain or drizzle is forecast to change to rain this afternoon and then persist over the region until late in the day on Monday.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
