THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CARIBOU HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
TO 4 PM EDT TUESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN
EFFECT.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 5 TO 9 INCHES.

* LOCATIONS...NORTHWEST MAINE.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW.

* TIMING...LATE TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...SNOW WILL RESULT IN DIFFICULT DRIVING CONDITIONS.
  HEAVY WET SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS COULD CAUSE DOWNED TREES AND
  SNAPPED BRANCHES WITH ISOLATED TO SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES

  • Queens County P.E.I.
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

An intensifying low pressure system will approach the Maritimes from the southwest tonight. It will move into the eastern Gulf of St. Lawrence Tuesday afternoon before heading into Newfoundland Tuesday night. In the wake of the low strong northwest winds will gust to between 90 and 100 km/h on Tuesday. Winds will diminish Tuesday night as the low pulls away.

  • Fredericton and Southern York County
Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

A low pressure system will bring 25 to 40 mm of rain tonight into Tuesday morning. The rain will change to or become mixed with snow on Tuesday as temperatures fall.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Snowfall warning in effect for:
  • Edmundston and Madawaska County
Snowfall, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

A low pressure system will bring rain at times heavy over New Brunswick tonight. Late overnight the rain will change to snow at times heavy that will taper to flurries Tuesday afternoon. Near 15 cm of snow is expected.
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
