THE US FOREST SERVICE MOUNT WASHINGTON AVALANCHE CENTER HAS
ISSUED A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH.

* TIMING...IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY TO 6 PM TUESDAY JAN 1 2019.

* AFFECTED AREA...THE PRESIDENTIAL RANGE OF THE WHITE MOUNTAINS,
  WHICH IS THE FORECAST AREA OF THE MOUNT WASHINGTON AVALANCHE
  CENTER. AVALANCHE WATCH CRITERIA MAY ALSO BE MET IN AREAS
  OUTSIDE THOSE FORECAST BY THE AVALANCHE CENTER.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...THE AVALANCHE DANGER WILL INCREASE THROUGH
  THE MORNING OF JANUARY 1ST CREATING DANGEROUS AVALANCHE
  CONDITIONS. WIDESPREAD NATURAL AVALANCHE ACTIVITY IS POSSIBLE.

* REASON/IMPACTS...A POTENT WINTER STORM ARRIVES THIS EVENING.
  STRONG WESTERLY WINDS FOLLOWING PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL
  CREATE POTENTIALLY UNSTABLE SNOW CONDITIONS AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS
  WHERE PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO FALL PRIMARILY AS SNOW.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
BACKCOUNTRY TRAVELERS SHOULD PLAN ON RAPIDLY CHANGING CONDITIONS.
EXTRA CAUTION IS REQUIRED IF PLANNING A TRIP INTO AVALANCHE
TERRAIN. BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL WILL BECOME VERY DANGEROUS.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Saint John and County
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected.

A low pressure system approaching from the west will cross southern New Brunswick on Tuesday. Snow associated with this system will start over New Brunswick overnight tonight and will taper off late in the afternoon on Tuesday. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. However, should the track of this system change as it approaches our region, these amounts could change significantly.

Additionally, in the wake of this system strong northwesterly winds will develop and temperatures are expected to quickly drop well below zero Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This will give windchill values approaching warning levels in the northwest near dawn on Wednesday.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will approach the Maritimes this evening, tracking near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday afternoon and toward Cape Breton by Tuesday evening.

Snow will develop ahead of this system Tuesday morning and taper to periods of rain or showers by Tuesday evening. Total snowfall accumulations near 15 cm are expected.

Additionally, in the wake of this system strong northwesterly winds will develop and temperatures are expected to drop well below zero Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Queens County P.E.I.
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will approach the Maritimes this evening, tracking near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday afternoon and toward Cape Breton by Tuesday evening.

In the wake of this system Tuesday night, strong northwesterly winds are expected to gust up to 90 km/h. Winds will begin to ease Wednesday morning as the low pulls away from the region.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

A low pressure system approaching from the west will cross southern New Brunswick on Tuesday. Snow associated with this system will start over New Brunswick overnight tonight and will taper off late in the afternoon on Tuesday. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. However, should the track of this system change as it approaches our region, these amounts could change significantly.

Significant snowfall possible on New Year's Day.

A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will approach the Maritimes this evening, tracking near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday afternoon and toward Cape Breton by Tuesday evening. Snow will develop ahead of this system early Tuesday morning over western Nova Scotia and spread eastward to the remainder of the province during the morning. Latest indications show that up to 15 cm are possible over parts of the province, especially over the Cape Breton Highlands where a snowfall warning has been issued. Gusty southeasterly winds during the day Tuesday could also reduce visibility at times in blowing snow. Snow should taper to showers or drizzle Tuesday afternoon as temperatures climb above the freezing mark.

Should the track or intensity of this system change as it approaches our region these amounts could change significantly.
