THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CARIBOU HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST
TONIGHT. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* LOCATIONS...SOUTHERN PISCATAQUIS COUNTY...PENOBSCOT COUNTY...
  SOUTHERN AROOSTOOK COUNTY...INTERIOR WASHINGTON COUNTY...
  INTERIOR HANCOCK COUNTY

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW WITH PERIODS OF SLEET AT TIMES THROUGH THE
  AFTERNOON.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...5 TO 9 INCHES.

* TIMING...THROUGH THIS EVENING. A BAND OF HEAVIER SNOW IS
  EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOWFALL WITH RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR
  WILL LEAD TO DIFFICULT TRAVEL WITH SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LOW
  VISIBILITIES.

* WINDS...NORTH 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...UPPER TEENS TO LOWER 20S.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. GUSTY NORTH WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

Winter storm warning in effect for:
  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A low pressure centre approaching the province is deeper and more intense than expected. As a result, heavy snow with amounts ranging from 20 to 35 cm is now expected to begin this afternoon and end overnight in most regions.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

  • Queens County P.E.I.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A rapidly deepening low pressure centre near Nova Scotia is deeper than forecast. As a result, up to 15 cm of snow and blowing snow will begin later this afternoon and end overnight.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:
  • Queens County
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Several hours of freezing rain is expected to persist this morning, especially over frigid inland regions that are sheltered from easterly winds blowing off the Atlantic Ocean.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
