...Major winter storm to impact the region tonight through Monday
night...

.Strong low pressure will develop in the Gulf of Maine tonight
and move south of Nova Scotia Monday night. Heavy snowfall is
expected along with strong winds. The combination of heavy snow
and strong wind will produce blizzard conditions at times...
especially late tonight through Monday night in the Bangor and
Downeast region.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 AM
EST TUESDAY...

The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow...which is in effect from
8 PM this evening to 5 AM EST Tuesday. The Winter Weather Advisory
is no longer in effect.

* LOCATIONS...Northern Aroostook and Northern Somerset counties.

* HAZARD TYPES...Heavy snow and blowing snow.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...6 to 10 inches.

* TIMING...Later tonight through Monday night. The worst
  conditions are expected Monday morning into Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...Periods of heavy snow along with strong winds will
  lead to whiteout conditions. Very hazardous travel can be
  expected.

* WINDS...Northeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* VISIBILITIES...One quarter of a mile or less at times.

* TEMPERATURES...rising from the lower teens into the lower 20s.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring.  Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...
food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

...Major coastal storm tonight and Monday...

.A strong low pressure system will develop in the Gulf of Maine
by later tonight. Snow will become heavy overnight. Snowfall
rates of 2-4 inches per hour at times are expected to lead to
very hazardous travel conditions. Winds will increase through the
overnight hours resulting in blizzard conditions toward morning
and during the day Monday on the Mid Coast of Maine. Elsewhere
near-blizzard conditions will develop late tonight and early
Monday possibly leading to power outages.

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST MONDAY...

The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a Blizzard
Warning...which is in effect until 7 PM EST Monday. The Winter
Storm Warning is no longer in effect. The Blizzard Watch is no
longer in effect.

* HAZARD TYPES...Heavy snow, strong winds, and blowing snow.

* Accumulations...Snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches.

* TIMING...Steady snow will begin late this afternoon and become
  heavy at times overnight and Monday. Winds will increase and
  become strong late tonight and Monday and allow for blowing
  and drifting along with very low visibilities.

* IMPACTS...Treacherous travel, low visibilities, and the
  potential for power outages. Blizzard conditions will be likely
  late tonight and Monday. The snow may be briefly heavy and wet
  for a time earlier on tonight along the coast which could lead
  to power outages.

* Winds...Northeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Temperatures...In the mid 20s.

* Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel...have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded...stay with your vehicle.
