Historic Early May Snowstorm

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Caribou ME
351 PM EDT Fri May 8 2020

...Significant Very Late Season Snowfall Expected over Central and
Northern Portions of the Region late Tonight into Saturday
Night...

.A May Noreaster storm combined with unseasonably cold air moving
into the region from central Canada will potentially produce the
most significant May snowfall across central and northern
portions of the region in quite some time, with the greatest
potential over northeast portions where heavier snow banding may
be most persistent. With temperatures near the surface very
marginal to support accumulations especially during the afternoon
hours Saturday, elevation above sea level and position of snow
banding will be key to what locations get a lot of accumulation
versus little. The combo of wet heavy snowfall followed by strong
northwest winds present the potential of scattered to numerous
power outage potential especially Saturday afternoon and night.
