Hurricane Irene moved up over the east coast of the United States
over the weekend. Irene transitioned from a hurricane to a post
tropical system as it tracked across Northwestern New Brunswick on
Monday. Post tropical storm Irene tracked across Central Labrador
Monday night and out into the Labrador Sea on Tuesday. Significant
rainfall was seen across much of Labrador although no amounts
reaching the warning criteria of 50 millimetres was observed.
The following are unofficial rainfall accumulations observed during
the event:
Churchill Falls ........... 37.5 mm
Makkovik................... 37.0 mm
Goose Bay.................. 27.8 mm
Wabush .................... 27.2 mm
