Special weather statement in effect for:

Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Mixed precipitation expected for Thursday into Friday.

Total snowfall: 5 to 15 cm.

Freezing rain: 2 to 5 mm possible.

Maximum wind gusts: northeasterly up to 70 km/h. Les Suetes winds up to 80 km/h.

Locations: central and eastern Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton.

Time span: Thursday afternoon until Friday afternoon.

Remarks: Precipitation is expected to begin as snow Thursday morning then transition to a mix of ice pellets or freezing rain in the evening and overnight. Freezing rain may create hazardous conditions over Cape Breton Thursday night into Friday morning. On Friday the area of precipitation will have moved out of the province, however flurries will likely persist in onshore winds from the Gulf of Saint Lawrence..
